Ad Astra at ConQuesT 53
In one of our first events, the Ad Astra Center for Science Fiction & the Speculative Imagination participated in this year’s ConQuesT, Kansas City’s longest-running science fiction and fantasy convention.
We were also the recipient of this year’s benefit auction, featuring a wide variety of sci-fi and fantasy items, ranging from art and jewelry to signed books and a nearly full run of Locus magazine. After a weekend of silent bidding, McKitterick and Johnson served as auctioneers.
It was a fantastic introduction (and for some a re-introduction) to the center’s mission and scope. We look forward to our plans in the very near future and to meeting more fans of science fiction and fantasy.
We are deeply grateful to our volunteers for their invaluable help, including:
Emma Cook, Carol Doms, David Easley, Desirée Neyens, Lauren Komnenus, Kolbe Krzyzanowski, Ruth Lichtwardt, Dawn Mennear, Jim Murray, Allison Stein, Rosemary Williams, and many others.
We cannot thank the staff of ConQuesT and the Kansas City Science Fiction and Fantasy Society (KaCSFFS) enough for inviting us and making us this year's recipient of the benefit auction. It was a blast(off)!
